STAFF COUNCIL PROPOSAL

Academic Senate Policy #S83-101

At its meeting of February 15, the Academic Senate approved the following resolution recommended by the Faculty Affairs Committee:

WHEREAS Staff members are acutely aware of the particular structure, organization, problems, strengths, and weaknesses in a department or area; and

WHEREAS Staff members are cognizant of the particular strengths, knowledge, and experience that an administrator should possess; and

WHEREAS Staff members, through their own experience, knowledge and perceptions, could signally contribute to the efforts of administrative search committees; therefore be it

RESOLVED That at least one staff member continue to be appointed to all-University administrative search committees when appropriate.  This staff representation will not replace assigned faculty, administrative, and student representation; and be it further

RESOLVED That all staff of departments or units be invited to open meetings with final candidates for the positions of deans and all-University administrators.
