RESOLUTION REGARDING ACADEMICQUALIFICATIONS

FOR THE NEW CSU CHANCELLOR

At its meeting of September 9, 1997, the Academic Senate approved unanimously the following resolution regarding academic qualifications for the new CSU Chancellor:

WHEREAS

The chief academic and chief executive officer of the CSU system should demonstrate experience in higher education through teaching and scholarship as well as administrative experience in complex organizations; and

WHEREAS

The position description for the new Chancellor no longer emphasizes these academic qualifications but refers only to the candidate's "commitment to higher education and the values of an academic community" and "demonstrated commitment to quality education;" therefore be it

RESOLVED

That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University calls upon the CSU Chancellor Search Committee to place the highest priority on candidates' records in teaching, scholarship, and academic administration, characteristics which will enable the new Chancellor to function effectively as the academic leader of the CSU faculty.
