    1. Chair
  • Thanks to everyone serving. Shared governance is so important
  • Senate Office Staff was introduced

    • Still looking to hire another part time person
  • We need to elect a new ExComm At Large member to replace Ellen Hines, so has agreed to serve as the chair of Student Affairs Committee. Thank you Ellen! Election will be held later in today’s meeting
  • Chair Gerber briefly went over the concept of a speaker’s list, how to get on the list, and a brief mention of how Robert’s Rules are utilized during plenary sessions.
  • Chair Gerber described the process that the plenary sessions will adhere to when items come to the floor. She clarified the meanings of first reading and second reading, in particular.
  • Questions:

    • Sen. Dariotis asked about if there were procedures in place to fill student vacancies
    • Sen. Gerber indicated that the process which was established last year, is to send nominations to the Senate office. Those nominations will be forwarded to ASI.

      • There is still work to be done to find ways to make this service a more academically rich experience for students, and more enticing to students, as their voice is an important part of the process. Perhaps offering units?
  • Sad news to report: a 2016 graduate, Shane Colombo, who majored in Psychology and minored in Holistic Health and Dance was shot and killed while he waited at a bus stop in Chicago during the Labor Day weekend.

  • Set priorities – have some high impact issues to tackle

  1. Curriculum Review and Approval Committee
  • Sen. Stowers reported on CRACs first meeting
  • Reviewed procedures and guidelines for curriculum approval
  • Talked about policy revisions – substantive vs. non-substantive
  1. Faculty Affairs Committee
  • Sen. Rubin reported on FACs first meeting
  • Lots of new members
  • Set priorities, in particular:

    • It’s been more than 10 yeas since RTP have been reviewed
    • Review and appeal process for sabbatical and leave without pay.
  1. Student Affairs Committee
  • Sen. Hines reported on SACs first meeting
  • Committee will be getting into some gnarly issues, such as:

    • Minimum wage
    • Wellness on campus
    • Project Rebound
    • Basic needs initiative
    • How do deported students finish their degrees?
    • International students EO 1110, does not address remedial English needs.
