Commeding Jo Volkert and her Outstanding Service to San Francisco State University

Whereas: 
Dr. Jo Volkert has served with unwavering commitment, immeasurable competence and impeccable grace at SF State since 1976, beginning service in the College of Extended Learning and continuing in service as the University’s Sr. Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management since 2001; and
Whereas: 
Jo then [concurrently] continued service as interim Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management from 2012-14; consistently and tirelessly advocating for and championing efforts to increase access, enrollment, retention and graduation for the diverse students we serve; and
Whereas: 
Jo has served on the board of directors of the University Corporation, San Francisco State, since 1990—the longest serving board member in the organization's history, providing surefooted guidance and exemplary leadership over the course of two decades, weaving into U Corp’s fabric a passion for student-centered service and advocacy; and
Whereas: 
Jo has committed herself to developing an ever progressing set of systems at SF State including CELSI, SIMSR, TTR, WebREG, DARS, CS, DPR and a host of other acronyms, and
Whereas: 
Jo has been a treasured mentor, colleague and friend to so many in Student Affairs & Enrollment Management and across the campus; and
Whereas: 
Jo has always worked diligently, collegially and productively with units across campus, always in the best interest of the University and its students; and
Whereas: 
Jo always responded thoughtfully and supportively to faculty, staff and administrators who were dealing with complex enrollment issues; and
Whereas: 
Jo, with years of astounding calmness, navigated the University through years of rising and falling enrollment struggles; and
Whereas: 
Jo has always worked as a cheerful and collaborative partner with Academic Affairs to further student success and facilitate the graduation of SF State students in ways both inside and outside the classroom; and
Whereas: 
Even though Jo may be the busiest person on campus, she always seems to find time to answer a question by email or talk through a thorny problem at five p.m. on a Friday evening; and
Whereas: 
Jo embraces kindness as a leadership skill that has encouraged current and past staff as well as her colleagues to contribute to SF State as creative risk-takers; and
Whereas: 
Despite the many demands on her time and attention, she’s always clearly focused on students; be it therefore
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate commends and honors Dr. Jo Volkert on her outstanding service and stellar contributions to our campus community; and be it further
Resolved: 
The entire campus community will most certain miss not only her open heart and ready smile, but also her deep well of institutional knowledge and wisdom, and the incredible impact she has had during her years of service; and be it further
Resolved: 
that the Academic Senate wishes her well in retirement as she moves on to the next chapter of her life, one that the Academic Senate and University community hopes is filled with joy and happiness.
