The awards, given annually since 2019, highlight exceptional staff accomplishments. The honorees (listed below) receive a $4,000 stipend for Excellence in Service award.

Excellence in Service (Staff)
Ms. Darleen Franklin has worked at SF State since 2005 and is also an alumnus. She has been an invaluable member of the Department of Biology as the Biology Instructional Services Faculty Manager. With her passion and advocacy, Darleen has contributed to science and SF State's support of BIPOC women in biology. The levels of her services are extensive and impactful. Within the department, in addition to managing the lab facilities, Ms. Franklin has played a leading role in running the department's graduation event. During the pandemic, she was instrumental in coordinating the re-entry to the research labs among many staff. She has been an active member of the faculty/staff Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) organization, the Anti-Racism Committee (ARC), the Jabulani (Black Graduation) Advisory Board, the ARC Student Recruitment Committee, and a PERC Fellow (Promoting Equity and Relationships among Colleagues). She led the Biology Virtual Gator Talks for the University and was a key figure in the SF State 2018 Women Summit. Her contribution to the BioSLAM initiative is also an example highlighting her commitment to serving our students and upholding the values of our institution. The breadth and scope of Darleen's services and contribution to the University are remarkable.
