Resolution on Reaffirmation of SFSU's Commitment to Social Justice
Academic Senate Resolution
on the Incident of October 25, 2005
Whereas The
incident that took place on October 25, 2005 involving members of the SFSU
community has stirred controversy about the campusà dedication to social
justice; and
Whereas The
first goal of the December 2004 Commission on University Strategic Planning
(CUSP-II) states, ÃSan Francisco State University demonstrates commitment to
its core values of equity and social justice through the diversity of its
students and employeesÃ; and
Whereas The
Academic Senate of SFSU passed a resolution on October 9, 2001 stating that
Ãharassment or intimidation of students, staff, faculty, administrators, or
guests of the University on this campus will not be tolerated;Ã therefore be it
Resolved That
the Academic Senate of SFSU restate its commitment to equitable,
nondiscriminatory, and civil behavior; and further be it
Resolved That
the Academic Senate of SFSU appreciate the speed with which the SFSU
administration formed an external review panel to investigate the incident that
took place on October 25, 2005; and further be it
Resolved That
the Academic Senate of SFSU support the faculty, student, and administrator
group formed to recommend strategies for seeking input from the campus
community about race and class relations on campus; and further be it
Resolved That
the Academic Senate of SFSU endorse the call for a fully representative campus group
to implement relevant improvements on the campus; and further be it
Resolved That
the Academic Senate of SFSU urge that the external review panel openly publish
its findings in their entirety as a link on the first page of the Academic
Senate website.
