Resolution Number: RF07-261
September, 2007

Senate Resolution

Resolution in Support of the 2008 Focus the Nation

Whereas, on
January 30th and 31st, 2008 San Francisco State
University will hold a climate change "teach-in" called Focus the
Nation, and;

Whereas, on
those same days over 1000 campuses across the country will also take part in
what may be the largest teach-in in U.S. history, and;

Whereas, the
goal of this teach-in is to help focus the national discussion on climate
change on taking action now, and;

Whereas, we
stand at a unique moment in human history where the decisions that we make
today - to stabilize global warming pollution - will have a profound impact not
only on our lives and the lives of our children, but indeed long into the
future, and;

Whereas, a
committee of faculty and students from across the campus have put together an
exciting program with a strong social justice focus and a set of outstanding
speakers, and;

Whereas, earlier
this year President Corrigan signed the University Presidents’ Climate
Commitment, committing our campus to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and
educate the campus on climate change;

Therefore, be
it resolved that the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University endorses
the focus the nation climate change teach-in.
