  • Thank you for all who are participating in the capital campaign which is at 92% of the goal of $150 million

  • Senate election process hit a hiccup and has been restarted ends April 22nd
  • Anti-abortion installation will be on campus April 15th and 16th, counter programming will be on campus by Health Promotion and Wellness

    • Sen. Dariotis – regarding lines 77-83, could candidates use work not related to their field for RTP process?
    • Sen. Wilczak – RTP criteria should be separate, perhaps language could be more specific

  • Discussion - Proposed amendment to include cultural in all language in which religion is mentioned.

    • Sen. Hines – we cannot sloe down our voyage toward including our diverse student body even though there are concerns about students who may take advantage
    • Sen. Luengo – in support. Should be noted that Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday

  • Sen. Stowers moved item to the floor

    • Sen. Collins – particularly important to give our students exposure to diversity in the workplace

  1. Recommendation from the Student Affairs Committee – Proposed Policy on a Student Grievance Code; first reading
  • Sen. Hines moved item to the floor
  • Discussion

    • Sen. Wilczak – there seems to be overlap between documents and there may be clarity issues when revising in the future. Lines 19-22 was a little unclear because it seems that there are two different ways in which the committee act. Appointments are also unclear (lines 44-45) in terms of whether they are students or faculty.
    • Sen. Yee-Melichar – lines 8-end of page under purpose. Purposes are spelled out clearly, but what happens when a student grieves another student?
    • Sen. Wong – lines 130-132 are perhaps a bit confusing. The procedures
    • Chair Gerber – split in policy, perhaps the statement about the separation of the Title IX grievances need to be added.

      • Procedural document has a list of grievances which are not addressed
    • Sen. Wilczak – it is a bit confusing because it was not clear what each document is covering

    • Sen. Sinha – has seen some international students return home unhappy
    • Sen. Kuchins – we have been declining in international enrollment. We used to be at the top and now we are not in the top 5. Widespread support is needed for this initiative.
    • Sen. Stowers ceded time to Dean Clavier – completely support the goal, but have some recommendations that are difficult and have written a response to the document and are looking forward to working together.
    • Sen. Collins – can we beef-up whereas clause #2 – domestic students also feeds the retention numbers

    • Sen. Scott – collecting money would go against many other policies
    • Sen. Wilczak – line 620 concern about deleting

      • Chair Gerber - that language is repeated
    • Sen. Mooney – regarding elections (lines 184-211) needs to be reviewed
    • Sen. Stowers – lines 296-298 reflects current practice
    • Sen. Scott – may be an opportunity to change Academic Senate to University Senate

      • Chair Gerber – we anticipate that next year with our new President and wider faculty involvement

    • Sen. Wilson ceded time to Dean Alvarez
    • Dean Alvarez – remerged from a faculty led process. The org fit with Health Ed and Holistic Health was not as tenable as it was previously. Vote to move was unanimous in both departments
