3.    Announcements from the Floor

·       Chair Albiniak: The ballot for 2021 special election is available. Voting is open until Oct. 8. 

4.    Reports

4.1. Chair Report

·       Chair Albiniak discussed some highlights of the Chancellor’s visit to SF State on Sep. 28

·       Chair Albiniak noted the difficult circumstances including the emergency campus closure in addition to pandemic-related stresses and expressed and offered support

 

4.2. President Report

·       President Mahoney echoed Chair Albiniak’s support and provided an update to the campus closure, with special thanks to the emergency response team and students for their quick action in identifying a suspicious social media post and keeping campus community safe 

o   The Chancellor’s visit on Sep. 28 went well. Chancellor Castro was particularly impressed by the campus’ emergency response, infrastructure improvements and new buildings, and the retention efforts like the FYE project to reach out to students and help them to re-enroll for fall 2021. 

·       Dedication of Marcus Hall on campus today brought many distinguished guests and speakers, was a joyous occasion for celebration on campus

·       Discussed efforts in increasing scholarships for SFUSD students

o   Chair Albiniak: what were some of the impacts of the discussion on cost of living?

§  Pres. Mahoney: The campus was very aligned in their discussion of the issues related to the high cost of living in San Francisco. SF State will seek to be awarded some of the one-time funds to help with student housing which would be used to renovate and update Mary Ward and Mary Park Hall to include more beds

4.3. Provost Report

·       Provost Summit also expressed support for members of our campus and thanked them for their collegiality

·       Spring Planning: Academic Affairs has set a goal of approx. 50% of spring 2022 courses be offered in F2F format and for students who wish to attend in-person to have at least two courses F2F

 

4.4. Standing Committees

4.4.1.   Faculty Affairs committee

·       Sen. Rubin: next plenary should be bringing and update to the faculty RTP resolution for flexibility during pandemic, will be looking to update the resultion for lecturers as well in light of the ASCSU resolution calling for a suspension of teaching evaluations for the 2021-2022 AY

 

4.4.2.   Student Affairs committee

·       Sen. Ramirez: working on academic honesty policy

 

4.4.3.   Strategic Issues committee

·       Sen. Goldman: currently gathering feedback on the RSO policy, a subcommittee of members of SIC and FAC are reviewing on the workload equity task force report

 

4.4.4.   Academic Policies committee

·       Sen. Yutian Wong: working on Academic Calendar policy, received a report from members of CWEP and working on policy for written English profieciency

 

4.4.5.   Curriculum Review committee

·       Sen. Drennan: reviewed process template for online proposal, three items on the agenda for consideration

·       Sen. Drennan moved the item to the floor

·       Sen. Collins spoke in support of the item

·       Sen. Way: some of the courses come from psychology, which is an impacted program. Is there capacity in psychology?

o   Guest Patricia Van Velsor: worked with Psychology dept. on proposal, some of the courses listed are for psych non-majors

·       Sen. Yee-Melichar: PLO 3 does not list age as a social impact, is there a way to address that?

o   Guest Patricia Van Velsor: yes, can consider this edit

9.    Grace Yoo, Professor of Asian American Studies and First-Year Experience Faculty Director, “First-Year Experiences During Remote Learning and Assessing Student Needs for Fall 2021,” (2:45-3:00pm time certain)

·       Grace Yoo presented to the Senate on a phone survey to all first-years, highlighting the methods, results, and some student quotes

 

10. San Francisco State University’s State-wide Senators Robert Collins, Associate Professor of American Indian Studies, Nancy Gerber, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Faculty Director of Predictive Analytics and Proactive Advising, and Darlene Yee-Melichar, Professor and Coordinator of the Gerontology Program (PACE), “Updates from the Academic Senate of the California State University,” (3:00-3:15 time approximate)

·       Sens. Yee-Melichar, Gerber, and Collins presented an update from the proceedings of the ASCSU, current efforts, resolutions-in-discussion, and future plans

·       Chair Albiniak described the role and noted noted the first nominee: Prof. Joceyln Hermoso, Associate Professor of Social Work and BASW Program Coordinator
