Commending Director of the Undergraduate Advising Center, Brett Smith, for his Distinguished Service to SF State University

Whereas:

Brett Smith joined San Francisco State University twenty-six years ago, serving with distinction as an Academic Counselor, Associate Director and Director of the Undergraduate Advising Center; and

Whereas:

Brett has been a staunch advocate for students and the student experience, often spending countless hours helping a student or faculty member solve a problem and reach the optimal conclusion; and

Whereas:

Brett has fostered an atmosphere of caring and concern for ALL students across campus divisions; and

Whereas:

He is NEVER afraid to do what he believes is right, even when it may be an unpopular choice; and

Whereas:

Brett has been a highly valued and trusted member of our campus community for over a quarter of a century; and

Whereas:

In his current capacity, Brett facilitates the excellence of the University’s Undergraduate Advising Center; and

Whereas:

Brett shepherded the development, design and implementation of the Early Start Program for SF State; and

Whereas:

Brett has served across the University throughout his career, including as a member of the General Education Committee, the Facilitating Graduation Task Force, the Student Success and Graduation Initiative, the Graduation Requirements Task Force, the Baccalaureate Requirements Committee, the Board of Appeals and Review (of which he was chair for many years), the Athletics Advisory Board, and countless other university committees and task forces; and

Whereas:

Brett was a member of the Academic Senate from 2002-2005; and

Whereas:

Brett Smith is retiring on March 21, 2013; now therefore be it

Resolved:

That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University congratulates Brett Smith on his retirement after twenty-six years of exemplary service to San Francisco State University; and be it further

Resolved:

That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University extends its appreciation to Brett Smith for his leadership, vision, wisdom, and compassion, in leading the Undergraduate Advising Center at San Francisco State University; and be it further

Resolved:

That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University confer upon Brett Smith the title of Lifetime Friend of the Senate and afford to him all the rights, privileges and warm wishes pertaining thereto.
