Commendation in Honor of SF State Academic Senator Genie Stowers

Whereas: 
RATIONALE: We offer this resolution to commend and thank Senator Genie Stowers for her extraordinary service to the campus community as an outgoing, long-term member of the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University.
Whereas: 
Dr. Genie Stowers joined San Francisco State University’s Department of Public Administration in 1991, and promptly became engaged in all areas of campus life; and
Whereas: 
Professor Stowers teaches classes in information technology, urban administration, strategic planning, budgeting, statistical analysis and data visualization, and the graduate capstone course; her current research interests are online service delivery in cities and data visualization in the public sector; and she has published widely on technology in government and urban service delivery; and
Whereas: 
Professor Stowers has served as Chair/Director of the Public Administration Program (1997-2012), Director of the Center of Interdisciplinary Programs (1998-1999), Associate Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (1998-2002), Co- Interim Director of the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership Program (2007), and Interim Chair of the Department of Secondary Education (2014-2015); and
Whereas: 
Professor Stowers is completing numerous terms of exemplary service on the Academic Senate and its Executive Committee with great dedication and extensive expertise; her leadership includes but is not limited to the following: Chair of the Academic Policies Committee (2004 – 2005, 2021-2022), Co-Chair of the Strategic Issues Committee (2007 – 2008), Chair of the Curriculum Review and Approval Committee (2010-2013), and as an elected At-Large member of the Executive Committee (2013-2014, 2014-2015); and
Whereas: 
Given her diverse campus contributions including, but not limited to, the Academic Program Review Committee, CUSP Graduate Programs Review Team, Ed.D. Task Force, Enrollment Management Committee, Graduate Council, University Budget Committee, WASC Steering Committee, many Administrative Review Committees, RTP Committees, and Search Committees, and numerous other committees, Dr. Genie Stowers was named the worthy recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Faculty Award for Outstanding Service; and
Whereas: 
Senator Stowers' contributions to the Academic Senate have included diligent fact-finding and data verification, mentoring of new Standing Committee chairs and Executive Committee members, initiative and willingness to undertake complex policy revisions, and exemplifying the spirit and practice of shared governance; and
Whereas: 
Senator Stowers has always worked diligently, collegially and productively with individuals and units across campus, always in the best interest of the University and its campus constituents; now therefore be it
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate commends and honors Senator Genie Stowers on her outstanding service and shared governance contributions to our campus community; and be it further
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate will most certainly miss not only her articulate voice and outspoken words, but also her deep well of institutional knowledge and the incredible impact she has had during her years of service; and be it further
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate wishes her well as she moves on to the next chapter of her life, one that the Academic Senate and University community hopes is filled with exciting adventures and much enjoyment.
