In Honor of Academic Senate Chair Nancy Counts Gerber

Whereas: 
RATIONALE: We offer this resolution to thank and commend Senator Nancy C. Gerber for her extraordinary service to the campus community as the outgoing chair of the Academic Senate.
Whereas: 
Professor Nancy C. Gerber joined San Francisco State’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in 1996, and quickly became involved in all areas of campus life; and
Whereas: 
Chair Gerber is completing her most recent six-year term on the Academic Senate, serving as a member of the Executive Committee for all six years: as an At-Large member (2014-15), as Chair of the Academic Policy Committee (2015-17), and as Chair of the Academic Senate (2017-2020); and
Whereas: 
Chair Gerber demonstrated strong and inclusive leadership overseeing the advancement of the Senate in the representation of faculty and staff, and especially in raising the stature of the Academic Senate across campus; and
Whereas: 
Chair Gerber has offered numerous and significant contributions including co-chairing the development of the Academic Master Plan (AMP) and facilitating the policy passage of: the first-year experience curriculum, the academic calendar policy, the grade appeals policy, academic probation and disqualification policy, and standardized time block policy; and
Whereas: 
Chair Gerber has demonstrated remarkable and measured direction, most especially in the current moment defined by the unprecedented COVID-19 global pandemic; and
Whereas: 
Professor Nancy Gerber has indefatigably carried the torch of shared governance for three terms as Academic Senate Chair; NOW THEREFORE BE IT
Resolved: 
that the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University expresses immense gratitude to Professor Gerber for her leadership and devotion to enabling effective communication throughout all facets of our campus community; and be it further
Resolved: 
that the Academic Senate and the College of Science and Engineering offer her a modest and well-deserved token of appreciation for her extraordinary service; and be it further
Resolved: 
that the Academic Senate and the campus community are grateful that she will continue to offer her leadership and perspective to the Academic Senate CSU (ASCSU) as SF State’s newest representative.
