In Honor of Academic Senate Chair Teddy Albiniak

Whereas: 
RATIONALE: We offer this resolution to thank and commend Senator Teddy Albiniak for his extraordinary service to the San Francisco State campus community as the outgoing chair of its Academic Senate.
Whereas: 
Dr. Teddy Albiniak joined San Francisco State’s Department of Communication Studies in 2015, a department where he earned a graduate degree, teaches courses in Forensics and in Argumentation and Debate, and serves as Director of Forensics which continually ranks as one of the most competitive teams in our region; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak leads the Department of Communications’ nationally ranked Speech and Debate Team and, upon its historic victory in 2016 against the previously undefeated Harvard University team, amplified San Francisco State’s social justice mission and publicly advocated for increased funding of public institutions of higher learning, and continues in the role of Director of Forensics to create extracurricular learning opportunities and to foster leadership skills for San Francisco State students; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak has supported transfer student success by teaching a first-year experience course for transfer students, despite his many other obligations as Chair of the Academic Senate; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak is completing his second consecutive three-year term on the SF State Academic Senate, having served as a member of the Executive Committee for five of those years: first as Vice Chair (2017-2020) and then as Chair of the Academic Senate (2020-2022); and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak demonstrated strong commitment to increasing the role of the Academic Senate through increasing opportunities for staff to serve as senators and joining the President’s Extended Cabinet; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak has strengthened San Francisco State’s culture of shared governance by attentively supporting and mentoring new members of the Executive Committee, demonstrating openness to a multiplicity of voices and commitment to ensuring that the Committee thoughtfully and thoroughly considers all matters brought to its attention; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak facilitated more robust and sustained communication among Senators by establishing a post-plenary open discussion period for general discussion and work groups; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak has been dedicated to informing the campus community about actions of the Academic Senate and other important issues through innovative weekly Friday Reports; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak led the Academic Senate through two years of the COVID-19 global pandemic by serving on the Pandemic Planning Committee and leading Senate meetings using a virtual format; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak advocated for planning efforts to prepare SF State for the future through his keen contributions to the President’s Strategic Planning Group, Academic Master Plan Framework, and WASC Steering Committee; and
Whereas: 
Chair Albiniak employed his rhetorical skills to eloquently promote a discourse that is both civil and unyielding in the pursuit of the greater good; NOW THEREFORE BE IT
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University expresses immense gratitude to Chair Albiniak for his leadership and devotion to enabling effective communication throughout all facets of our campus community during the last two years; and be it further
Resolved: 
That the Academic Senate with the support of his College of Liberal and Creative Arts present him with well-deserved tokens of appreciation for his extraordinary service.
